Verses:

READ: READ: Psalm 5

1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my sighing.

2 Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray.

3 In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

4 You are not a God who takes pleasure in evil; with you the wicked cannot dwell.

5 The arrogant cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who do wrong.

6 You destroy those who tell lies; bloodthirsty and deceitful men the LORD abhors.

7 But I, by your great mercy, will come into your house; in reverence will I bow down toward your holy temple.

8 Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies- make straight your way before me.

9 Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with destruction. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongue they speak deceit.

10 Declare them guilty, O God! Let their intrigues be their downfall. Banish them for their many sins, for they have rebelled against you.

11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.

12 For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.

Thought:

I remember a couple of years ago when I decided to move a printer in my office from one computer to another, it took, not surprisingly, hours of wrangling to make it work.

Gradually it dawned on me that because the computers used different operating systems, their ability to assimilate the information from the printer was not the same. As the hours wore on and the error messages increased, I began to see an interesting principle in action: lack of understanding inhibits progress in life.

Yes, sometimes we manage to stumble onto the right path in spite of ourselves, but "getting it right" sure makes a big difference. Because understanding is progressive in nature, it generally unfolds as we mature.

Just as my feeble mind slowly made the connections regarding my software issues, it's only as we grow in Christ, in knowledge of Him and awareness of how He works that we can comprehend how to follow His plan for us.

God has given us amazing minds. Doesn't it make sense that they will work a lot better when we ask the Designer for the instructions? This much I know to be true - while we may not "get it" right away, the language of love God uses to teach us is a lot more "user-friendly" than advice from a help desk technician!

Today, let's bring our readied hearts and surrendered minds to God for understanding. Consider praying: God, who gives meaning and wonderment in our lives, we pray. For understanding that will help us grow in our faith . For understanding that Your truth is lived out in our actions, whether through visible or behind-the- scenes means and ministry .For inspiration in our church and own lives about how to take Your Good News out into our community .For people who are committed to living out Your purposes .

Questions to consider:

***How can I do a better job of getting my instructions from God?

***What are some things I know God has already instructed me about that I have not done yet?

***Commit to spending some time with Him each morning to get that days set of instructions!

God wants us to know and understand Him. We can be confident that when we ask, He will give us the understanding that we need.
